Can guys and girls really be just friends?
I’ve heard mixed reviews on this matter. To be honest I still don’t have a great answer. As a female with a couple really close guy best friends I can personally say that sometimes it can get complicated. Someone catches feelings or there’s an awkward drunken encounter. Most of the time this gets worked through and is just something to look back and laugh at.
It’s easy to think that you like your opposite sex best friend. It’s nice to get attention from them and know that they truly like you just for your personality. You spend lots of time together, make memories, everything feels so easy so your mind instantly thinks that they’d be a great partner. Just because you make good friends with someone DOES NOT mean they would be a good significant other for you. But of course our brains don’t realize this. Plus if you’re toxic like me you like the attention and even flirt just a bit to spice things up. Right at this moment I can say my relationship with my guy best friends is completely platonic. My guy friends and I already passed the complicated phase of catching feelings and drunken encounters. But it did happen at one point and I wonder if anyone out there can say that they have a completely platonic friendship.
Having had this experience with my male best friends makes me realize why people are always worried when their significant other has a friend of the opposite sex. I actually get it. You’re concerned theres some unrequited feelings or some BS like that. But truthfully if anything was going to happen it probably already did and failed so you don’t have anything to worry about. Unless your a crazy jealous girl then you do you boo boo(not referring to myself at all LOL).
Having a best friend of the opposite sex is so fun. They can give you insights into their brain on how the opposite sex thinks. The relationship just has a different dynamic and the things you talk about with them is different than what you would chat about with your same sex friends. These types of relationships help you grown and learn. I wouldn’t trade my guy best friends ever and feel lucky to know them.
