Where my overthinkers at?
I always find myself ruminating over things that most people probably don’t give a second thought to. At work I wonder if what I said was too harsh or if I made myself sound dumb. In social settings I wonder if they enjoyed my company at all. Was I funny enough? Did I talk too much? I overanalyze that text without any punctuation. I overanalyze that email that’s straight to the point as anger. I think of all the bad things that could happen. It’s a constant rumination that send stress levels through the roof. Maybe there is some validity to these thoughts but constantly worrying about it can be very taxing. How do you overcome these thoughts? How do you stop overthinking?
I think it really comes down to changing our mindset so we don’t spiral. This article gives tips on how to do just that. For me the biggest help is looking at the bigger picture. Meaning how significant really is this thing that I’m ruminating over. Is it truly that important? The answer is for the most part no. I do want to mention that sometimes overthinking could be a sign of a mental health problem and if you suffer from overthinking it may be worth considering talking to a therapist. Only you know the severity of what your experiencing. Mental health is so important so make sure you’re taking care of yourself and seek therapy if its what you need!
I recently read this book called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. and man did it give me some well needed healthy self-reflection. If you ever need a push to stop overthinking things this book is it. The amount of time I spend sweating the small stuff is insane and I really need to pay attention to what matters.
