The Quarantine Blues

It’s okay to not feel okay we’re living through a pandemic

It’s Friday night and I’m home scrolling Tik Tok which has become my nightly ritual. I’m in my early 20’s allegedly the best years of my life, I should be tearing up the dance floor at some club with my friends.  Who knows when that will even be possible again. I’m honestly so tired of life not being normal. I want to go out to eat, plan vacations with friends,  and go to bars. But all those things are unsafe to do now. I get that. I know it’s for the best, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be sad about it. 

Everyday feels like repeat of the last. I wake-up and stay in bed far too long, slug my way to my desk to hop online for work, clock out and then crawl back into bed to watch Netflix or scroll on my phone. Taking trips to my kitchen to eat an unnecessary amount of snacks throughout the day of course.  And it sucks. I miss working hard in the office and making fun weekend plans to motivate me through the week. I miss work happy hours to break up the week. The Quarantine Blues are real!! At least we’re all in this together? 

I think I’ve hammered my point in pretty well that basically my life consists of being a blob that wears the same pizza stained hoodie all week and spends most of my days in bed. Now that my pity party for myself has ended I do think there are some things that I and anyone can do to make these trying times a little brighter. It’s so easy to be lazy and disconnect from reality but instead it’s time to embrace this new world as my reality and make it work for me. Below I’ve outlined some things I’m going to start doing to help me break up my days and boost that serotonin!

  1. Reach out to friends! I’m so bad a this. I feel as though I’m passively responding to group chats but haven’t had a deep friend to friend conversation in so long
  2. Work out! Imma try and get off my lazy ass and go on walks/runs. Yes half walks and runs cause I’m severely out of shape. 
  3. Shower and change before work! No more wearing my pizza stained hoodie. I’m going to get ready as if I’m going into the office
  4. Read more! I want to read more useful information such as finance tips, worlds news, etc. vs. my usual nightly Tik Tok scroll(no shame in this Tik Tok is entertaining as hell). 

These are just some goals I’ve come up with for myself to help me not become a bigger blob than I already have these past several months. If you have any suggestions that worked for you let me know!
